What You Do
The PAT Home Visiting program links each family with a Family Support Specialist who visits the parents and children, either in-person or virtually through Zoom, to provide parent and child development education and activities designed to encourage each child’s physical and emotional development. The Family Support Specialist also connects families with resources in the community and supports parents to set realistic goals for their family. Family group connection events are hosted monthly and all parents are invited to join with their children to meet other families in the community and build a positive peer network.

All families in Napa County with children ages 0-5, including the prenatal period, are eligible to enroll in the Parents As Teachers Home Visiting Program, up until a child turns 3, and are then welcome to participate in the program until their child enters kindergarten. Families who participate in the PAT Program can expect to work with a Family Support Specialist throughout their child’s early years to receive:
Personalized Visits, in person or virtually, to learn more about their child’s healthy development and receive suggested activities to strengthen the bond between parent and child, while encouraging the child’s physical and emotional health.
Family Connection events with planned activities designed for fun family time, and opportunities to meet other families with young children.
Resource Connections to link families with community providers and information to meet their interests and needs.
Adult and Child Health Screens, including adult and child physical and emotional health screenings, as well as the Ages and Stages Questionnaire developmental screens to identify any potential developmental delays or health concerns.
Together, these components offer support for families and children that achieves four primary goals:
Parents become more confident due to increased parent knowledge of early childhood development and positive parenting practices;
Developmental delays and health issues are detected early and referrals to appropriate intervention services are made early in the child’s development;
Child abuse and neglect are prevented as parents learn and practice positive parenting practices that are appropriate for their child’s age and stage of development;
Children are ready for school and more likely to be successful academically, and their parents are more likely to be engaged in their child’s education throughout the years.
PAT Home Visiting Program services are available in English and Spanish.
